The other day I did some cartwheels on the grass. That's a form of play that we often don't engage is we get older. I was with a friend. It was fun, and I'm so happy the weather is getting warmer so I can play more often!
I have to say, my perspective on creativity was not changed by the creativity workshop at the Columbus Art Museum, but rather expanded by some of the things we talked about. The word "creative" is often linked to artistic individuals. However, watching the video about the cardboard arcade encompassed a different view of creativity, and in a little boy who wouldn't have been looked at twice if not for that video. What we define as "creative" has definitely shifted since the influence of technology has seeped into our lives.
I like to think that I incorporate creativity into my daily life. I'm a pretty free-form thinker, and routine bores me. I try and do something different every day. However, I used to have a lot more creativity in my life. I spent half the day in the art room in high school, and I really miss getting lost in the creative process. During the workshop, I got lost in the creative spiral, and it reminded me of how much I miss that kind of work. Because of that, I decided I need to incorporate things in my life that require more active learning. I'm not really sure what that looks like yet though. I'm hoping to brainstorm a creative project for my senior project for BLF in the fall (there goes my futuristic way of thinking, which sometimes gets ahead of me).
I did enjoy the workshop a lot. I enjoy spending time at the Columbus Art Museum because I think they're doing some innovative things. I'm looking forward to working with them in the future.
